For Simons Kräuter I recently designed a new line of packagings. They have created a new organic tea mix with cornflowers and mint and calendula and lemon balm. I decided that a mix of botanical drawings and imperfect illustrations were a good combination to project that their tea blends are also a mix of ‘wabi sabi’.
In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.
Beside the new labels for the organic tea blends I also thought of more elements that one day could complete the line.
